Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin condition that causes irritation and reddening of the skin with silvery scales. It affects 3% of the world’s population.
Risk factors. Infectious factors (bacterial, viral and fungal), certain medications, alcohol and tobacco, stress, cold weather, frequent scratching or friction, or hormonal changes, may trigger psoriasis and/or worsen the condition.
A balanced diet rich in fibre and omega-3 fatty acids and good skin hydration is recommended.
