Hypertriglyceridemia

Hypertriglyceridemia is the excess of triglycerides in the blood.

Risk factors. The origin can be genetic, secondary to an illness or unhealthy dietary and living habits. A high level of triglycerides may lead to atherosclerosis, which increases the risk of cardiovascular problems.

The narrowing of the arteries increases the risk of heart attack or a stroke. Diabetes, obesity, kidney failure and alcoholism can cause an increase in triglycerides.

Normal levels are below 150. With levels above 200, one must be careful.

Treatment. If levels are high, medical treatment. Following a healthy diet low in calories and reduce fat intake.
