Immunological response

When the immune system detects an antigen, it responds by producing a protein called antibodies that destroy foreign substances.

The immune system response also incorporates a mechanism called phagocytosis, in which white blood cells destroy bacteria and other substances that have been introduced into the body. Proteins called "complement" help the leukocytes in this process.
